Why I like white fillings.....
..actually they are not white. They are tooth coloured fillings because teeth are not white - anything but white. A pure white filling would stand out like a sore thumb if the tooth itself is not pure white, and so for this reason a properly placed filling should be invisible and not draw attention to itself. The correct name for them is 'composite restorations' and 'glass ionomer restorations'. At Haynesdental we only place white fillings.

Teeth Whitening?
Where is this? You may be forgiven for believing that this is in some far flung third world country. Look at the quality of the ‘Dental Chair’ and that strange looking light standing on wheels. But wait a minute. Is that the dentist in the background? What nationality is he? And who are those potential customers? Yes you have guessed it. This picture was taken by my son Andrew outside a flea market in Florida USA just last week.
Below is Andrew with his new wife Stephanie. They now live in Orlando and are very happy.
Have you ever wondered what kind of teeth a dentist’s children have? Below is Andrew and my daughter Louise.
Do you think their teeth are white enough?
Why do people want white teeth?
Is it for the following reasons?
Vanity
Prestige
Because they want to look good
They want a pleasant smile.
To improve facial expression
They want to encourage others with a nice wide appealing row of railings
They want to dazzle the eyes of oncoming traffic
They want to look young.
Well, with the above questions in mind please examine the following staff picture taken at the party at the British Dental Association Conference at Bournemouth. It was themed on a Hawaiian night.
Why are Luke’s teeth as white as that? How many of the above have had their teeth whitened? The answer is six and all the above except the first two in reverse order! I cannot speak for everyone of course except for myself.
In my case I must include vanity on the evidence of the following picture taken at the same conference.
Notice that I am not smiling or showing my teeth. This indicates that I am simply a poser and, as one of the six who has had his teeth whitened, I have had it done for all the wrong reasons!
You may be interested to know we had an excellent conference. I think it true to say we all learned something so as to provide a better service to our patients.
